I didn't know that about Trump's daughter. in a nutshell, when I decided to explore outside of Christianity, Judaism seemed the natural choice - partly due to the obvious connection between the two, but partly because my family was supposed to have had some vague ancestral Jewish connection! I haven't done any serious genealogical searching but when I had initial look there wasn't any definite sign of a Jewish connection but it is possible it was further back that we had thought. I have a slight suspicion now that it was just a fanciful notion on the part of my grandfather :) It was mostly Reform Judaism that I was involved with. I explored Orthodox but didn't quite fit there really.

    I am much less observant now than I was (there is no Jewish community where we live now at all, sadly) but my children had a very Jew-ish experience growing up. As I said, I never went through with conversion, but they know a lot more about Judaism than Christianity and we always had some kind of improvised sukkah. Friends of our who were in a similar situation actually moved to Israel for a few years. I would have loved to do that.
